Our Happy Family

Introducing Evija Valentina Plummer

On Tuesday, February 19th, at 1:27am, our beautiful baby girl, Evija Valentina Plummer, made her grand entrance into this world and changed our lives forever. At 8 pounds 1 ounce and 21 inches long, she is a little slice of heaven.

Of course, our little Evija had to make a dramatic entrance. Active labor came out of nowhere, beginning in our car on the way to a romantic lunch at Chez Panisse, and ending with an emergency C-section 12 hours later. Highlights of the evening include an episode of projectile vomiting on the doctor, two nurses, and our doula’s birthing ball, proposing twice to my anesthesiologist, and finally hearing Robert’s exclamation of joy, “She’s beautiful!” over and over as she was born. The seconds that followed seemed to draw out forever while we listened for her first cry, and then the sweetest, soft coo filled the operating room. It is a cry that keeps melting our hearts over and over again.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to hold Evija right away. She was whisked away to NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) because she experienced some complications from labor, and was having difficulty breathing on her own. She spent the first three days of her life in intensive care, which was really hard on us, but she made a very quick recovery. After a week’s stay at the hospital we were discharged, and Robert drove us home at 20 miles under the speed limit. We had our first pediatrician’s visit Monday, and we are happy to say that she as healthy as can be, and of course, we are madly in love with her. The Evija we are getting know is a night owl like her parents, curious and alert, and already very active. We call her “Houdini” because no matter how tight we swaddle her, she manages to wriggle out within minutes!

In the brief intermissions when Evija is sleeping, Robert and I will update this website with more details and pictures.

Thank you all for your love, support, and well wishes.
